genomIT participating in the World Birth Defects Day

As we approach the 2019 World Birth Defects Day, genomIT ratifies its commitment to keep studying patients with genetic disorders, which may be the cause of intellectual disability or congenital anomalies. A precise diagnosis is the necessary keystone for better understanding the etiology of such disorders, facilitating an adequate genetic counselling, planning and executing reproductive strategies aimed at reducing the recurrence risk within the family and, in some cases, designing strategies for specific follow up or treatment.

We invite the scientific and medical community, as well as the general population, to join us in this campaign to shed light on the problem, which each year affects up to 8 million newborns worldwide, represent a frequent cause of child mortality and disability and has a greater impact in countries with low and medium income.
